Just a quick update on the implementation of the DMARC specifications, which we talked extensively about earlier this year (see DMARC and the fight against phishing). We are happy to report that Yahoo! Mail just announced that it is now DMARC compliant. This means that Yahoo! Mail, one of the largest providers of email accounts in the world, has adopted and implemented the DMARC specifications:

  • A sender’s DMARC policy will now be applied to messages sent to Yahoo!
  • Yahoo! is now sending back to the sender reports on the messages that are being received (so the sender can gauge the extent of the phishing problem, if there is one).
  • As senders begin to implement their DMARC policies, Yahoo! Mail users will be more protected from phishing attempts
Adoption of DMARC by senders will grow over time, especially as more ISPs implement the DMARC specifications on their end, as Yahoo! just did.
