SMS REST API

Since a few weeks ago, developers are now able to leverage the MailUp REST API for the SMS channel. The SMS API follows the best practices in RESTful API design and it’s a welcomed improvement from the previous SOAP API. The result is greater flexibility in your SMS marketing campaigns.

Benefits of the SMS REST API

At MailUp, we keep investing in providing developers more extensive integration solutions, such as the SMS REST API. To name a few features of the SMS REST API, you can:

  • Create messages
  • Import contacts
  • Send SMS texts
  • View statistics reports

Real-time statistics reporting

One key feature introduced in the SMS REST API is the ability to generate and view real-time statistic reports. The SMS REST API allows you to generate segmented reports, a feature that was not possible with the SOAP API. Let’s take a look at an example: you can now segment all your contacts whom did not receive your SMS due to a delivery error. You can also, generate a report that shows you the cost (in credits) of each of your SMS marketing campaigns.

Knowing the stats of your SMS sends is crucial to understand the performance/ROI of your SMS campaigns. This should also include keeping track of the cost of your SMS sends. Thanks to the SMS REST API you now have this flexibility and, for example, you can exclude all those phone contacts in your list who show as non-delivered. Hence, you save on your SMS credits and lower the cost of your SMS campaigns.

SMS campaigns around the world

The MailUp SMS platform allows you to send SMS campaigns in more than 100 countries. In fact, you can purchase SMS credits based on the country you are in, and be sure to follow the SMS regulations in your country. For setting up the sender phone number, we recommend you set it up directly in MailUp, so that we can provide you with advice on any additional settings and regulations. You can do this under Messages > SMS > New.

Importing SMS contacts

MailUp is a multi-channel platfom. When importing phone numbers into the MailUp platform, you can also import contacts as email subscribers and import their email address, along with any other relevant info. This information is saved into MailUp fields.

Keep costs low!

The MailUp SMS channel works in terms of SMS credits, which means that there are no fixed monthly costs, and you pay only for the SMS sends. With the SMS REST API, developers can see the number of sent SMS and the costs of each campaign.
